Every 43 seconds, in resource-poor countries, a child under-5 dies of Pneumonia. 40% of these Pneumonia-related deaths occur among children under 28 old (Neonates). Almost all these deaths are preventable. Lack of accurate diagnostic and monitoring devices is one of the largest contributors of the high mortality rates.
Medical
Tabiri Health has developed a novel wearable respiratory monitor that will monitor Newborns admitted to Newborn Units due to Pneumonia. Our device accurately picks lung sounds, monitors respiratory patterns, and analyzes the patient’s vital signs and sends an alert to the medical team when early signs of respiratory deterioration occur.
Our unique sensors, placed on the Newborn’s chest and upper limbs, monitors at-risk patients, 24/7, admitted to Neonatal Units. The sensor data is then analyzed using machine learning, to detect and predict any worsening respiratory functions. Our telemonitoring system then sends an alarm to the clinicians whenever signs of respiratory deterioration or failure are detected.
Among the available respiratory monitors, ours is the first of its kind. It combines continuous auscultation of lung fields, monitoring of respiratory patterns and monitoring of other vital signs to accurately determine the respiratory function of its wearer.
Solution - Hardware and Software
Our innovation is a wearable, non-invasive and wireless respiratory monitor consisting of chest and limb sensor units. The Tabiri Health Platform will utilise machine learning models to analyse input clinical history and data collected from sensors to predict the probability of the wearer developing respiratory complications/failure. The interpretations will be sent to clinicians for determination of the best treatment modality.
